Homeschooling is work, a lot of work, and sometimes we will make mistakes. Chances are you made at least one of these homeschool mistakes today!
When I first began homeschooling I was terrified of making mistakes. I thought for sure I was going to screw up my kids, fail at this homeschooling thing, and kick myself for ever thinking I could do it.
And, of course, I did make mess up. We all do. But, my kids? They’re good! Homeschooling? It’s hard, but worth it! The mistakes I made are common, and chances are you have made them too. But, we CAN overcome them, and homeschool successfully!
Trying to do it all
When we attempt to do it all, we are leading ourselves into burn out. Homeschooling is a full-time job; add any paid job we may have, cleaning our homes, dinner, caring for younger children, and outside activities and errands and we are on a collision course for disaster.
Solution? Ask for help! Whether this is from our children in the form of chores, our spouse in the form of giving us a break, or outside help, we cannot do it all. Period!
Feeling Behind
Be honest, how often do you feel behind? If you are like me, you feel this way often. I used to feel like we were always late in school or running late to be somewhere, or late getting dinner on. I felt behind all the time.
Solution? Ditch the schedule! Now, I am not saying ditch a routine, just the timed part of the schedule. Once I got us into a school routine, I immediately felt more relaxed. If Grammar took a little longer, no big deal, History doesn’t HAVE to start at 10! I know what needs to be done each day, and in what order, but we no longer feel late or behind in our school days and that is a HUGE relief!
Believing the Lies
The world will tell us our kids need to be in school to be socialized. They will tell us that we aren’t qualified to teach, or that our kids will never get into college. And we BELIEVE them. Deep down, we do. We doubt ourselves and our abilities and it needs to stop!
Solution? STOP BELIEVING THE LIES! You are equipped to teach your children, if Gods plan for them is to go to college then He will make a way and public school socialization… really? Your kids are NOT missing out!
Homeschool moms, believe me when I tell you that you will make mistakes homeschooling, you may fail, but you CAN do this! Believe in yourself, and stop believing the lies, let your family fall into a routine and ditch the schedule, put away the mindset that you can do it all, and do what you can well while asking for help if needed. Learn from others homeschool mistakes, and live life well!

I can definitely relate to feeling behind! I always remind myself how much of classroom education is spent doing things other than active learning!
