I believe homeschool conventions can benefit even seasoned homeschoolers and even a seasoned homeschooler should attend a Homeschool Convention. Why?
From the first year I began homeschooling I LONGED to attend a homeschool convention. For one reason or another I wasn’t able to until a few years ago, and it knocked my socks off!
As a more seasoned homeschooler now some may think that the convention would be less important. I mean after all aren’t homeschool conventions about learning to homeschool and finding a curriculum? After a few years under your belt, most of us have that area covered right?
WRONG!
I believe homeschool conventions can benefit even seasoned homeschoolers. And I REALLY believe even a seasoned homeschooler should attend a homeschool convention. Why?
Homeschool Encouragement
Let’s face it we ALL need encouragement. I have heard great stories of encouragement coming from the speakers at homeschool conventions. A few years ago a friend brought me an audio CD from one of the speakers and it gave me so much encouragement.
Whether you are in your first year homeschooling, homeschooling high school, or have multiple ages to homeschool we all get wore down, tired and just DONE. Attending a homeschool convention will put you in a building with a TON of moms just like you. Conversations can be had, speakers can be listened to and I don’t know a mom who has left a convention NOT feeling encouraged. I think that is all something we can benefit from 🙂
Tools to Equip You for Homeschool Challenges
This homeschooling thing is hard and each year brings different challenges. Once we think we have this homeschooling gig figured out middle school comes, then HIGH school, then we are facing college admissions. It’s enough to make even a seasoned homeschooler overwhelmed!
Many of the session topics at the homeschool convention deal with facing challenges. Whether the challenge you are facing is financial, high school, special needs, or something else there is a GOOD possibility it will be covered by your local convention. This means you will leave feeling better equipped to handle future or current challenges.
Homeschool Curriculum, Homeschooling Programs, Homeschooling Resources
Yes, you may have your curriculum picked out but who doesn’t love the smell of new books? Plus, it is nice to see things up close and personal. Maybe you plan on changing math in a few years, or maybe you have always wanted to SEE a certain curriculum to know if it’s really worth it. Homeschool conventions give you the opportunity to browse TONS of curriculums! I have heard you can literally spend one whole day in the vendor hall. Seriously.
Bonus-Most vendors will offer you free shipping if you purchase curriculum from the convention. If you order from multiple companies online this can save you a good amount of $$ on shipping!
So, will I be seeing you at a homeschool convention this year? I hope so!! I will be attending GHC in Cincinnati as a guest, as well as the Southeast Homeschool Expo in Atlanta as an exhibitor. If you plan on going leave a comment here or if you see me PLEASE stop and say hi 🙂 !

I’m doing a workshop at our local homeschool convention this year, just found out a few days ago. Feeling pretty nervous but I TOTALLY agree that encouragement is so important. Getting together with other homeschool moms who just get it! Pinning this post 🙂
