They placed this wiggly and wet baby in my arms. I looked at it and knew that God had given me a task. To raise up this child to know and love Him. It was a blessing, and each time I wondered if I was up to the task.
As parents we are training arrows. We are training our children to know and love the Lord. We are training them to go out and share His word to a lost and dying world.
Yet, the older I get, the older my children get, I notice how dark and lost the world is. I feel like the challenge of raising arrows is becoming harder and harder. Yet, NOW is the time to do just that. I listened to Heidi St John speak at the Great Homeschool Convention on our culture and the job we as parents have to raise our children for such a time as this. Now, more than ever we need to stand up, stand strong and do our jobs.
How can we do this?
We need to gird up! We need to be prepared to go on the offensive and speak the gospel in love. Now is not the time to cower in fear when the world challenges our beliefs. It is the time to stand up, and share our faith.
Why?
Because our children are watching us. They may hear our faith in our homes every day, yet seeing it in action? That is something else. It is our job as parents to be courageous. By speaking the truth in love to those around us we are training our children up in righteousness.
How?
This may sound easy, but we all know it is harder than what we think. So, how can we get strength for the task at hand?
We can pray. We need to be dependent on prayer. Our children need to SEE us on our knees each and every day. They need us to guide them in a prayer life as well. We do this by praying with them when they have a decision to make. A prayer dependent life does not happen overnight. It happens after days, and months, and years of prayer. It happens when we put our faith into action.
I don’t know about you, but I look at this world and I get a little fearful. Slowly, but surely they are taking our rights as Christians away. In schools are children are being taught everything BUT the gospel. Our government has obliterated the sanctity of marriage, children are being told they can “be” whatever they “feel” and shootings in public places are becoming a regular occurrence.
Yet, now is not the time to cower in fear. Again, it is the time to put our faith into action. The parents of today are raising the parents of tomorrow. We need to train up our children for such a time as this. We need to prepare them for the unknown and live out a faith that they know is worth fighting for.
We need the word. The word of God is a powerful tool against the enemy. Our kids need to see us reading it daily. They need us to read it with them, daily. They need to learn how to hide it in their hearts at a young age.
One resource I have found that can truly help me and my children know the word of God more is the New Testament Challenge. Over the past few weeks this bible study has helped me dig into the word WITH my children. This has opened up discussions that we never would have otherwise had. Sold as a 10 week bible study, it is flexible and can be done more quickly or at a slower pace.
Because I have enjoyed this study so much I am partnering WITH Chuck Orr to give out one copy of the New Testament Challenge to one of my readers! Enter to win below 🙂
Are you prepared? Are your children? Now is not the time to sit idle. Let’s work diligently and train our children for such a time as this!

Discipleship has to begin at home…it’s our greatest calling as parents. I appreciate how you compelled moms to do what is best and then you gave them a tool with which to do it!

Hey Michelle! I am doing it along with my 9 and 11 year old. I’d say 11 and up could do it indpendently. We are going VERY slow through it. An adult or teen could jump in and do it as written. But, it has around 2-3 chapters of the bible a day scheduled, plus discussion questions and that is too much IMO for younger kids. So, we are doing a chapter a day and answering the question coorelating with that chapter. The questions are simple, but can encourage deeper discussion. It could really be done with a variety of ages, but younger kids would need adult guidance. Hope that helps!

This looks really good! What ages would you say this study would be best for?

This is so important. The discipleship aspect of homeschooling has been my favorite part of having my kids with me all day. Knowing God’s Word is such a great way to prepare kids to be lights in darkness. This looks like a great resource!
