Today I am chatting with Michael DeGroat from Worldview Academy about raising teens in a time where the Christian culture is highly under attack. As homeschool parents, what can we do to prepare our teens for this climate and how can they be the salt and light if they are home and not out in the world?
Last summer my daughter, heard about a camp called Worldview Academy while listening with me to the Heidi St. John podcast. She and I both immediately felt that this camp would be perfect for her. She had just felt called to missions and the camp was all about equipping teens in their faith and focused on spreading the gospel. She did a bake sale, babysat, completed some extra chores, and had a donation from a mentor. All of these efforts led her to Worldview Academy. That camp changed her life. I do not say that lightly. I dropped off a teenage girl and picked up a young lady who was even stronger in her faith than she was before.
Because of this change that I saw in my daughter, I reached out to Worldview to see if they would chat with me about raising teens in a time where the Christian culture is highly under attack. Today, I am chatting with Michael DeGroat.
Michael’s passion for empowering leaders began when he first attended Worldview Academy as a student in 2000. Since then, he has served as a Discipleship Staff member, Male Staff Discipleship Director, and, currently, Executive Director. Growing up on the mission field, Michael’s family worked in Christian camping globally. He graduated from LeTourneau University with a degree in International Business. Today, he makes his home with his wife, Melissa, in Dallas, where he can be found on a free weekend, turning a wrench on his off-road Jeep or seeking an outdoor adventure.

- Our culture, and what it is like raising Christian teens in today’s times. What are some things you are seeing facing our teens?
- As homeschool parents, what can we do to prepare our teens for this spiritually declining climate?
- We have been told by Christian leaders in our community that the best place for our kids is in public schools so they can be the salt and the light. How would you respond to this? What are some ways that homeschoolers and teens today can be the salt and the light in their communities?
- How can Worldview help prepare our teens to be leaders in a culture that seems to be against Christianity right now?
