When my daughter received an iPad for Christmas I assumed it would be a fun gift that allowed her to play games. I had NO clue the amount of educational apps out there that were perfect for homeschooling parents. As the newness of the iPad has worn off we have slowly become “educated” in the various learning apps available for kids. One such app is the Dragonbox Elements.
Dragonbox Elements is designed to teach children geometry, without them even realizing it! It offers over 100 puzzles that can help kids (and adults) gain a deep understanding of the logic of geometry.
What is DragonBox Elements? It is a program designed to teach children geometry in a way that was inspired by “Elements”, one of the most influential works in the history of mathematics. Written by the Greek mathematician Euclid, “Elements” describes the foundations of geometry using a singular and coherent framework.
Learning using Euclid’s Elements is beneficial because it teachers children to have an understanding of the underlying principles of geometry. This minimizes the need for memorization, gives students the ability to apply knowledge in a way that requires mathematical reasoning, leads the students to have a higher rention level, and allows students to develop better reasoning skills in general. And the best part? They don’t even realize they are learning!
But, don’t just take my word for it! Take my daughters, who was kind enough to share with me in her own words, what she thought of DragonBox Elements:
I like Elements because you are making soldiers, and learning. One of the best things is that it doesn’t even seem like you are learning. It is SO much fun. After each section (every 12 rounds) there is a battle where you try to attack some monster spiders. This lets you win a new part of the mountain. You will LOVE Elements! ~ my oldest, age 10
Dragonbox Elements is designed for children elementary age. You’ll find teaching tips and a parent guide on their website. You can download the Dragonbox for iOS or for Android. You can also follow DragonBox on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
There are many different games available by DragonBox. The mathematical games by DragonBox were created to help kids learn difficult math subjects quickly and effectively. The creator, Jean‐Baptiste, wanted to make sure his children, as well as other children, had the opportunity to learn while enjoying themselves along the way. The games are designed to not only be learning tools, but an opportunity to share these magical learning moments with our kids.
If you would like to try out a DragonBox game, then now is your chance! DragonBox App is giving away a total of 100 people access to the webbased versions of the algebra and geometry apps. (No mobile device is necessary.) This is valid for anyone in the world.
