Learning Fun on the Go

As homeschool parents, we know that learning can happen anywhere! This is especially true when you have a child who soaks up knowledge like a sponge. That is why I was so excited when I found out about Smithsonian Everything You Need to Know Cards.

These cards are a product from Silver Dolphin Books, and were made in collaboration with experts at the Smithsonian.  When you order the Everything You Need to Know Cards, you have two options.

The first is grades K-1.  This set of 275 cards contains facts on a variety of topics including sharks, rainbows, basic health, additional animal facts, and more. Each card has an illustrative photo on the front, and then flip it over for facts and a learning moment.

The grades 2-3 Everything You Need to Know cards are made similar to the younger grades and also include 275 educational cards. The topics are more in-depth and go over facts about volcanoes, the solar system, George Washington, and many more fun and engaging topics

Despite the age range, I will admit that my oldest (4^th grade) and youngest (preschool) still enjoyed them. For the last few months these cards have went everywhere with us, from speech, to the beach, to the grocery store, and mall.

My daughter has spouted off facts like:

“Did  you know, that most of the world’s diamonds AND chocolate come from Africa?”

And:

“Canids are skilled predators and long distance runners”

(Me-what is a canid?)

“DOGS, mom! Our pet dogs are canids too”

All things that I had NO clue about until she got these cards.

We also loved looking through Silver Dolphin’s Blog! The girls have making these origami animals on their summer bucket list!

Here are a few things we loved about the cards:

  • The pictures are amazing!

And one thing we didn’t:

• Contained evolution based content.

 

Overall, I believe that if you can look past the evolution based content these are a great value for the money! My daughter is still reading through them, and loves them! My boy (almost 4) is too. In fact he loved them so much he may have loved a certain “sharp tooth” picture to pieces….
