I have been homeschooling for almost 9 years and only attended my first homeschool convention 2 years ago. Why? I just couldn’t actually GET to a homeschool convention.
This was before the days of online options. Now, homeschool moms have tons of options right at their fingertips. Including online homeschool conventions.
But, which option is better? Online? Or a physical convention?
I think the answer lies in what you are looking for! They both have pros and cons. Let’s take a look at WHY people do and don’t attend a convention and find which choice is the BEST for YOU!

I Want to SEE Homeschool Products
As homeschool moms, we can look online all day long at homeschool products but that is NOTHING like getting into the product itself and SEEING it. I remember one year when I was torn on a math curriculum I ordered three different curriculums online just so I could SEE which one would fit my daughter. I lost shipping costs on the ones I returned but it was worth it to see it.
The winner here is without a doubt PHYSICAL convention (and if you are near Atlanta you can attend one with me soon)
BUT, don’t disregard the online option here. In the days of video, more and more online conventions are offering videos showing you the curriculum you are interested in.
I Don’t Have Child Care
Yes, I know you can take the kids with you, but that’s nothing like being able to go on your own and browse. And listen. And be encouraged. It’s just not the same when the kids are in tow. I know. I’ve done both! If this is your concern then an ONLINE convention is for you! With an online convention, you can listen to speakers on YOUR time. You can browse and shop on YOUR time. No child care needed as hopefully, they are sleeping 🙂
The Cost of Travel is Too Expensive
Our nearest homeschool convention is two hours away. Not too far for a day drive, but if the speakers I want to hear aren’t speaking on the same day? I miss one OR have to pay for the overnight stay. This drives up the cost. ESPECIALLY if your family is coming too. A wonderful solution is an online homeschool convention.
You pay ONE fee and you are done! Full access to EVERY speaker and you don’t have to leave your house!
So, Which Choice is Right for YOU?
If you chose DIGITAL then I have some great news! Registration is going on NOW for the Digital Homeschool Convention, AND all sessions will be FREE for the first FIVE DAYS!!
If physicals more up your alley, then that’s okay! You aren’t going to lose out on ANYTHING by registering and trying out an online convention because did you see that it is FREE for the first 5 days?!
