What is one thing all homeschool moms need? The answer may surprise you!
I remember my first year homeschooling. I was overwhelmed. I was in over my head. I was in tears daily. So were the kids. I didn’t know what I was doing but I knew for sure that I was NOT going to make it as a homeschool mom.
And then, another homeschool mom called me. She said to me, “you know what, you can cry on my shoulder anytime, I know how hard this is” and you know what I did? I cried. I let it all out. I don’t remember what she said, what I said, or anything else, but I do remember hanging up the phone more confident of my abilities. She encouraged me, and that was all that mattered. Homeschooling is hard, and she gave me the encouragement I needed to keep going.
Fast forward a few years and again I felt overwhelmed. I was in over my head. I was in tears daily. So were the kids. I didn’t know what I was doing but I knew for sure that I was NOT going to make it as a homeschool mom.
I stumbled upon the book Desperate. I read it and immediately felt like I was NOT alone. She knew how I felt, and that made me feel not so crazy. That book encouraged me, and that was all that mattered.
Last month I shared with you about my homeschool disaster. I also shared how one homeschool momma named Sarah Mackenzie knocked my socks off. She encouraged me, and that is all that matters.
What do these three scenarios have in common?
Encouragement!!
That is the one thing ALL homeschool moms need. But, where can we find it?
We can find it in real life friendships with other homeschool moms. I wrote a whole series on this and you can check it out here. The homeschool mom friends I have encouraged me on a daily basis. Seriously. I don’t know WHAT I would do without them.
We can find it in online support groups. The mommas in my blogs Facebook group are some of the sweetest ladies I know. Both online and in person 🙂 They encourage me, they encourage each other, and together we are making it on this homeschool journey. We’d love to have you join us! If not, I encourage you to find another online support group focused on YOUR needs. My friend Ann laid out the BEST Facebook groups out there so pick one! You won’t regret it!
We can find it in resources! I shared above that Desperate changed my life. That book spoke to me at a time when I needed it most. Resources can do that for us. Whether it be an amazing blog post, a book you can’t put down or a podcast that lights you up resources can be a HUGE sense of encouragement. There are also amazing homeschool podcasts out there for homeschool moms.
Homeschool moms, you need encouragement! You need someone on your side who speaks your crazy language. Someone who can tell you that they burn the toast, forget to grade the papers, and ditch school some days too.
Encouragement on our journey. That is one thing ALL homeschool moms need!
How do YOU find that encouragement?

That’s great! I couldn’t imagine doing this walk alone either. So thankful for the community God has provided us with <3

This is SO TRUE!!!! I have a sister and some close friends who also homeschool their kids and I’m able to get encouragement from them. This would be an incredibly hard journey to walk alone! I also try to pray for wisdom and encouragement on a regular basis. God has called us to this journey and He doesn’t expect us to do it without any help from Him. 🙂
