Family fun. It may sound silly, but really making time for family is SO important. I shared before about how important family fun days are, and how we strive to make them a priority, but I also want to share some of the fun things we do! Why? Because family fun doesn’t have to be expensive. The KEY to family fun is one word. FAMILY!
Board Games!
We love board games, and I share pictures of us enjoying them regularly on Instagram. Why are they such a hit? Because they are CHEAP. They are TIMELESS, and they require little to no planning. That’s a win, right? Here are some of our faves:
Camping
We LOVE to tent camp. Well, maybe love is a strong word, but we do love the time we get to spend together. No electronics. Not distractions, just time together as a family. WE try to do this at least once a summer. We have been known to lock our house and even pitch a tent in our backyard. The only way you get in is if it’s a potty emergency. Camping allows time for stargazing, conversation and good old fashion family fun!
Geocaching
Our kids really enjoy this! We get into geocaching most when were on vacation. Our favorite find was on the beach last summer. You can download this free app and find geocaches close to you. We keep a treasure box in our van for those unplanned moments of family fun!
Movie Nights
Here’s a little-known secret, so no judgment okay? My hubby has a movie night EVERY Friday night with our kids. It’s their time to sit together, eat ice cream and just chill. They do this while I work. So yeah, it’s not always total family time, but it’s still important time together in our home.
We have also been known to splurge and purchase a new release movie and have family movie night at home together for no reason other than family fun. Our most recent purchase was Zootopia. Worth every penny! Here are some of our other favorites:
Fishing
We are not avid outdoors people. Really we are not. We do however like enjoying the great outdoors together. One thing the kids like doing together is fishing. We have been known to get the kids up early on the weekend and head out for a fishing day. We rarely catch anything. I don’t think were GOOD at it, but it is a great way to spend time together as a family.
These are just a few ways we choose to have some good old fashion family fun! What is your favorite thing to do as a family?

Yea, I don’t catch anything. I’m just there for the pics 😉

I have an app (it’s free) called geocaching. It doesn’t bring up ALL the ones near you, but it unlocks new ones after you find a few. It shows around 10 near your location. It uses your phones GPS signal to locate them. You need that app and a small box of treasures to swap out what you find. Think thinks like stickers, scrabble tiles, marbles, kids meal toys, etc. Nothing major. I think once you get into the harder geocahces (We haven’t done enough to unlock those) you can get better treasures. But our kids are thrilled with what they have found thus far.

Yes, it is like a treasure hunt. Kids love it!

Thanks for the inspiration- we need to do more board games for sure! I’d love to take up fishing too just for the time together as a family. Not sure I’d really *want* to catch anything!! 🙂

We love board games! We’ve never tried geocaching before. How do you get started in that?
